Have You Been Accidentally Hurting Your Diet?

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These would be the food items that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies nicely balanced nutritionally but don’t stuff us full of empty calories that may later have to be burned off at the gym. Did you know however that some of the diet foods you’ve been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could even be trying to keep you from slimming down altogether! Check out some of the ingredients that might be helping you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks tend not to actually help you. You’ve probably been told that if you need to help your body rejuvenate itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most doctors will let you know, though, that if your workout does not go over ninety minutes then you really should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are loaded with sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don’t need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Instead, look at consuming some chocolate milk. The suscrose inside the chocolate can help your muscles start to mend and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip the protein shakes. Lots of people are convinced having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. The truth is that for anyone who is already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overburden your system with protein. Converse to typical belief, protein is not stored as muscle fiber, it is stored as fat. This means that when you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn’t need in your fat, which won’t help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn’t as good for you as you may well think. It’s commonly thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a lot of preservatives and definately will provide you with about a third of your suggested sodium ingestion for the day. This can be especially tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than getting pre-packaged deli meat, choose some home cooked poultry or the deli meat that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Sure these are the more expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are lots of things that we imagine are better than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your physician which elements are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you ingest and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
