Exercise regimens, whether followed at home or at the gyms, do have certain disadvantages. Such exercise regimens, after the initial enthusiasm wears off, can become drudgery. One faces a lot of boredom performing the same sets of exercises and the motivation tends to wane after a certain period of time. Also, personal workouts can at times be painful when you do not feel as enthusiastic and seem to be doing the chores. Boot camp workouts are not only entertaining, but also are great for your health. These workouts are carried in a rapid without-a-break manner and hence, boredom does not set in.

If you did not know already, a boot camp is a camp for training military recruits. The main objective behind these camps is obviously to train the recruits for a specific duration of time in order to achieve a specific level of fitness. The training regimens of these camps are rapid and intense and for those who can take it, can be beneficial. Over the years, many urban fitness centers have borrowed the philosophy to train people for fitness. Many fitness regimens are designed the same way these days and one can achieve a certain level of fitness within a specific period of time.

These camps are held for a period of 4 to 8 weeks and it typically has the following characteristics (give or take a few):

§ A small group of participants

§ Conducted on an open space such as a park

§ Begins with a warm up

§ Contains exercises such as Push-ups, Plyometric, Squats, Lunges, Core Strength and Speed Training with Sprints, just to mention a few of them

§ Conducted for 30 to 40 minutes

§ Ends with a cooling down session

These camps can bring several benefits, as many of its participants will testify. First, one becomes more disciplined in life generally. Second, this can take one's fitness levels to a new high as strength, immunity and stamina increases. In fact, some experts have pointed out that such camps may be immensely handy in combating Obesity, which is rampant in the United States. Third, one becomes a better time manager as one has to participate in multiple exercises within a limited period of time. Fourth, as one is working out in the company of likeminded people, the possibility of a drop in motivational levels is much lesser. Lastly, one finds it pretty convenient as one is constantly monitored by the trainer so that the exercises are performed correctly.

It is however recommended that one goes through a consultation with the physician followed by an elaborate medical examination prior to enlisting for such training programs. The trainer will insist on knowing the medical history of a participant so that the exercise programs can be tailored accordingly. Obviously then, not all exercises are suitable for everybody. These training programs, nevertheless, have been a big hit among people who want to raise their fitness levels. The program has its own philosophy of fitness and participants do not seem to mind, as long as their fitness needs are met.
