Getting To Know Weight Loss Through Hypnosis Methodology

Weight loss through hypnosis is a growing alternative treatment for those of us with weight problems. Like anything else, this form of treatment has its advantages and disadvantages. Many psychologists feel that there is not enough of a scientific study that shows its effectiveness but they also say that weight loss through hypnosis, coupled with behavioral management therapy has some significant and positive results.

As my own personal belief, I tend to believe that whatever works for the person should most definitely be used as a solution. Interning for a psychologist after graduation, I have had first hand experience with the weight loss through hypnosis methodology. The patient was perhaps more than 100 pounds overweight and was in critical danger of having a heart attack or a stroke. The person I worked for suggested doing some behavior modification treatment for his appetite. Back then it was not the weight loss through hypnosis term they call it today. It seemed that the cause of this patient's obesity was more psychological as he did yearn for attention from a parent, whatever attention the patient could get. In this case, even criticism from the parent was one way of this patient of getting attention. It wasn't for the lack of love his parents had for him, but rather the nature of the business the parent was involved in made the parent be gone for several weeks at a time, making the child yearn for the parent's love.

The process of hypnosis started with a discussion of the patient's likes and dislikes, especially when it came to food. This patient, of all things, disliked gelatin or jelly. We theorized that the patient may have been given jello like diet when he was younger and for weeks was only feed jello in an attempt to lose weight. The patient did eventually tell us of this situation when he was hospitalized and could only be feed jello as he could not stomach other solid foods.

The treatment was for him to go back into this memory for one meal daily. More often than not, it would be at dinner time. We also had to regulate his meals and get him a work out trainer so he could start exercising. The hypnosis began by inducing him to a trance like level, almost asleep but able to hear us. We then induced him to go back to that memory and he told us in great detail, like he was actually reliving the event of what had happened: he was sick and could not eat, he was hospitalized and his parent was to follow to see him. Somehow the parent could not make it because the parent's flight got canceled, and so for the next day, he was alone with his nanny, while the doctors and nurses were feeding him jello. We made him relive this moment of distaste of jello every evening at a certain time. By the end of the month, his results were positive as he had lost around 20 pounds through the combination of weight loss through hypnosis, diet and exercise. By the time I left the place I had interned with, that patient had lost over 60 pounds. He had also told his parent his true feelings about not having that parent around. I hoped that everything turned out alright.
