My Unforgettable South Beach Diet Experience

My foray into the south beach diet oddly enough began at a restaurant. Having dinner with my friend, who happened to be the restaurateur, I was surprised to find out that she was eating items not found on the menu. I inquired if the food she was having was off the menu and could be ordered. She told me that she was experimenting on this new unique catering service that served meals using the South Beach Diet. She then stood up, walked into her kitchen and came out with a plate filled with what seemed to me like very delicious food and told me to try it out.

My initial apprehensions of the South Beach Diet were then laid to rest. I had thought that it was like every other diet that was available at that time. I had thought that the servings were sparse, spastic at best and the food was devoid of flavor and savor. To my surprise, the food had aroma that tingled my nasal passages. Sweet tomatoes that had been picked at the earliest time passed through the food. The smell of basil leaves and thyme lightly blended with the portion of meat which had its special marinade and made me like a pavlavian dog salivating lightly at the meal. My first taste of the meal, I closed my eyes and began to slowly chew, if not lightly suck the juices of the vegetables and meat. It had a unique combination that left me inquiring to find the right word to describe it. All I could remember was that it blended well, like finding the right wine to a sweet dessert. My friend smiled upon seeing my appreciation of her south beach diet meal and then confided in me that I was one of the first people to have tried her recipe, which was a combination of available vegetables in the market that meant it was served fresh, and some of her own secret recipes that were applicable to the south beach diet methodology. We sat for more than an hour discussing the history of the south beach diet, and dispelling the notion that it was a diet made for the rich but actually came about for the available produce in that area. Though she mentioned that it was made popular by the affluent, she researched and also found out that the south beach diet was actually the original food staples of those locales and transients living in south beach in the nineteen forty's and the nineteen fifty's. The reason she was starting this new venture of catering south beach diet foods was because first of all, she had liked the diet and secondly, most of our friends were asking her to prepare meals that were healthy and had her signature flavor in it.

This of course happened a few years back. I got to see her recently and asked her how things were with her south beach diet catering business. She mentioned that things were going well and that there were times, she made more money in the catering business than in her restaurants. I asked her if the south beach diet was a fad to which she replied, if it was a fad, it's going to take a long time before it goes out of style.
