Problems With Fad Diets To Be Aware Of

If you have a weight problem then you have surely seen millions of articles with different types of diets. Low fat diets low carbohydrate diets high protein diets and millions of other such diets. Infact a Google search of diet will give you hundreds of different diets. You might be right in supposing that overeating is one of the biggest reasons of obesity. However everyone must understand that just dieting will only give you a temporary result and even then the results will not be optimum.

It is very important to understand the basic principle of excess weight. People gain weight when the amount of calories that they intake is far more than the amount of calories that they burn during the day. This simple understanding will lead us to the conclusion that the best way to reduce weight is to burn more calories than what we intake during the day. Therefore it is clear that controlling our diet is a way to reduce weight, but it lasts as long as we continue with the diet.

Increase metabolism for long term success:

Let's take an example if someone generally burns 600 calories a day and in takes 700 calories through food then that person will be putting on weight. This person then decides to go into a diet. The calorie intake is reduced to 500 a day. Weight loss will occur. however if the person does not keep up with it and goes back to normal habits after a point of time he or she will again start putting on weight.

What this teaches us is that controlling food and calorie intake will provide us results as long as we maintain the diet vigorously. As soon as we go back to business as usual the benefits of the diet of lost and we begin putting back weight. In fact it is extremely difficult to keep up the fancy diets that we keep hearing about. How many people are able to keep on going all through their lives on an Atkins diet? Or for that matter any such diets that we find mention of.

What then one might ask is the way to lose weight. The answer can be found if we go back to our example. If instead of using 600 calories a day we ensure that we burn 800 calories a day while we intake 700 calories we will see the result in weight loss. We can burn excess calories doing very simple exercises. Walking as much as we can is a good strategy. Taking some time during the day to do some exercise is another. Changing our mode of transport from a bus car or motorbike to cycling is another. Therefore though dieting is an important tool to lose excess weight if we want the effect to remain permanent we must bring about some change into our daily routine. We must increase the amount of calories we burn. This method is far more sustainable than trying to live with a diet our whole life.
