Does B12 Injection For Weight Loss Work?

Vitamin B12 is one of the nutrients that the body can easily absorb and store, and this is extremely good for all of us since lack of that vitamin can lead to serious repercussions. Vitamin B12 deficiency isn’t easily perceived, for most of its early symptoms can be mistaken for other illnesses or even ignored altogether as something normal, such as fatigue, weight loss, depression, difficulty in paying attention, and lack of appetite. But its when the deficiency gets really marked that the effects on the body start getting really serious, such as pernicious anemia, psychosis, or dementia. These disorders can be difficult to treat and may affect one for life.

Most people who eat from a nutritious and varied diet will rarely become deficient in this nutrient, although the older we get, the less our bodies will be able to absorb vitamin B12. Lack of this vitamin is more common among strict vegans and vegetarians or for those who decide to follow a long and monotonous diet. If the bodys requirement of vitamin B12 cannot be supplied from food, then supplements and injections are the two available options. And as a matter of fact, vitamin B12 shots are also used for weight loss, despite the lack of evidence connecting them to the energy level and metabolism, or burning off of fats and calories from the body.

It’s worth noting that vitamin B12 supplements in pills or capsules are not used for weight, but just the injection form. Sometimes the shots are also mixed with lipotropic compounds like methionine, inositol and choline or MIC for short, which the body uses in breaking down fat. But despite the rising popularity of MIC and B12 injections, there is still no solid evidence that support their claims in weight loss or that B12 works as an appetite suppressant in any way, and the United States Food and Drug Administration has not approved the use of B12 shots for any reason other than treating vitamin B12 deficiency and all the medical disorders proven to get benefits from regular shots of the vitamin.

Vitamin B12 works to keep our bodies healthy by assisting in healthy cell production and functions of the nervous system and the brain, and lack of the vitamin can lead to serious disorders, but it doesn’t equate to weight loss if you inject loads of it into your body. Stay healthy by eating from a nutritious diet rich in meat and dairy products, and lose weight the tried and tested way by exercising more and snacking less on starchy and preserved foods.
