End of the Year Goals for Weight Loss

So it’s the end of the year and inevitably there will be an increase in members at the local gym because, ‘this is the year I’m finally going to lose some weight.’  No pun intended here but unless you know what you are doing that a fat chance.  Here are 3 things to get your brain cranking and put you in a position to start thinking about how to lose the weight.

First let’s get on the same page because I know how it feels to be spending days at a time restricting your diet and not eating all the delicious foods you want only to find out you have gained another pound not lost any.  How on earth is that happening?

The reality is you are working against your body or it against you.  In any event the methods you’ve tried aren’t working.  The truth of the matter is that depriving yourself of food won’t help you lose weight in the long term.

My first tip is to eat smaller portions more frequently, and you may have already heard this but stick with me because after all how long have you ever really tried this?

Most body builders eat between 6 and 10 small meals per day and how many of them would you consider fat?  The reason this works is similar to a lawn mower, keep it going all day by adding a small amount of gas every time it’s about to run out.  You don’t buy an attachment and tow around a gas tank.

Second tip is to increase your activity level and do some exercising.  Unfortunately many Americans are under the impression that simply adjusting diet habits is enough, it’s NOT.  The math should be simple enough, you need to burn more calories than you consume.  If all you do is consume less eventually your body will adjust and so will your weight loss.  If you only need to lose a few pounds this may be great, but if you need to lose more you will need to change your lifestyle.

Drink lots of water is what rounds out the top three list.  Your body is made of water and you need to consider the fluid in your body to be more like a drainage system.  It is the day your body gets rid of unhealthy acids and fatty build up.  No water in means it’s harder for your body to get it out.
