How to Make Healthy Fast Food Choices

Being on a diet does not necessarily mean you have to give up all fast foods. A trip to the fast food joint every now and then does not have to spell disaster for your weight loss diet plan. The key is to fit everything within your calorie budget. Just making a few changes in your normal fast food fare can help you stay away from all those calories while you enjoy the snack.

Healthy Fast Food Choices: Tips

Here are a few tips to help you make healthy fast food choices.

ØBurgers: Order a kids’ burger or a regular ham burger at fast food joints. This cuts down a lot of fat and calories compared to the quarter pound burger loaded with double meat, cheese and sauce. If, however, you prefer to snack on the richer items on the burger menu, ensure you stay away from extra toppings and mayonnaise. These extra toppings will cost you extra calories too. Instead, use mustard and vegetables for flavor. Vegetables also pack a lot of fiber, which is healthy.

ØSandwiches and Subs: Choose subs and sandwiches with broiled or boiled meats like chicken breast, turkey, lean roast beef or lean ham. If the bread is too thick, take away the top and then cut the bottom lengthwise. Now use one half of the bread as the top.

ØSide Salads: Side salads are a smart way to include healthy vegetables in your fast food meal, while being easy on the pocket too. Just watch out for extra fat toppings such as cheese and bacon bits. If you know that the salad you have ordered includes these items, ask for them to be left out. Also, when you order a light dressing, order it on the side so that you can decide how much to use.

ØDon’t do Doubles: When ordering from the regular menu, steer clear of oversized items, such as foot long hot dogs or double cheese burgers. The double orders may look like a steal but oversized fast foods will actually double your waistline too and throw your weight loss plan off the track.

Keep these tips in mind next time you eat out at a fast food joint.
