Top 12 Energy Boosters Part 2

Energy can be easy to come by if you just take the time to care for yourself and learn a few boosters to help get you moving and feeling more alive and active. As I promised, here are the last 5 energy boosters to help you get through your day.

8. Oxygen
Really! Breathing deeply from your belly or what some like to call belly breathing is a very deep, very relaxing, yet very energizing as your iron rich blood takes all the incoming oxygen to every cell that needs oxygen to thrive and survive. So how do you go about doing this? It’s easy. First, get comfy either lying down or sitting in a comfy chair. Put your hands on your lower belly and shut your eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose from your belly, which should expand and make your hands more outward. Hold your breath for 3 seconds, then slowly exhale through your mouth and let your stomach relax and your hand move back towards you. A lot of times when people first try this they get light headed really quickly. If this happens to you just breathe normally for a minute or two and try again. Try to do 20-30 deep belly breaths every day, once or twice a day for an energy boost.

9. Exercise
The absolute best way to get energy. “But How?” you may ask “When I am trying to GET energy to exercise, is exercise going to get me energy?” Well exercising engages our body, our muscles, lungs, our cardiovascular system, everything to work, everything in our bodies are stimulated when we move which is why after sitting at a desk all day not moving around makes us tired, why we have the “afternoon slump”. Now you say, “Fine, I understand that, but how do I get the energy in the first place to get exercising?” Simple, about 30 minutes before you exercise, or when you want to exercise, eat a medium banana (about 6 inches long), a handful of almonds, and drink 8 oz of water. You will have a fast acting carb (banana) to give you quick energy to get up and get started, protein (almonds) to give you lasting energy through your entire workout, and the water to help you have energy, moisten your joints so to speak, get and keep you hydrated to get you going. Water is just plain good for you, SO DRINK IT! After you get your workout done, it is good to have another small meal consisting mostly of protein. A great example is a protein shake with water or skim milk if you want to lose weight, 2% or whole milk to build muscle and bulk up. Now you will have energy for the rest of the day and motivation/inspiration to workout tomorrow.

10. Shower
Whew! After all that exercising you need it! LOL! Just kidding! Actually, a shower CAN invigorate you; wash away the day, help you to feel clean, plus it can give you a little stress relief by relaxing you to the point where you feel good and calm again which is the point where you will feel energized to keep going. There are many different things you can use in the shower to energize you, there are many different body washes, shampoos, conditioners, and face washes too for men and women that have invigorating scents, like citrus or peppermint, and with those who are using a Loofah, you will really clean your skin as well as stimulate the nerve endings all over your body which will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to go!

11. Aromatherapy
No, this isn’t just for girls or a chick thing, and it doesn’t have to be about perfumes and cologne, although there are some energizing scents out there you can use many different olfactory stimulants to give you an energy boost through out the day. For example, you could use a scent that is nostalgic and brings back happy memories, like the smell of chocolate chip cookies or hot apple pie right out of the oven can take you back to when you were a kid and happy days that have gone by. This can give you happy thoughts which stimulate endorphins which leads to… you guessed it! ENERGY! You can also use hobby related smells like for gardeners, your favorite flower, car enthusiasts might be energized by the smell of motor oil and gas (though I don’t know healthy that is), if you love to go camping or back pack, the scent of pine and maybe wild flowers can be your key to energy through your nose. I do understand some of these may be harder to find or get scent wise; you’ll have to get creative. For instance, if you love the smell of campfire, take an extra rag with you the next time you go camping and keep it near (but not right next to) the fire to get that ashy smell. Then put it in a plastic Ziploc bag. Later, open it up to release the smell. I don’t know how long the smell will last, but it’s worth a shot if that’s what you like to smell.
Another way is to, like in the previous section use shower items with energizing scents. You could even add your own using essential oils. For this using caution is important because if you put oils on your body it is not just your nose that it affects, your whole body will be affected as the oils are absorbed into the body. Different oils can affect you differently. Even so, they are wonderful natural ways to heal pretty much anything that ails you, keep in mind, NOT everything, but many things. Some examples of energizing and invigorating oils are: basil, cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, lemon, grapefruit, geranium, jasmine, juniper pine, patchouli, rose, rosemary, thyme, etc. There are also companies like Young Living that sell energetic combinations that you add to your energy boosting kit. Don’t forget to add a carrier oil like Jojoba or sweet almond if you are going to put the essential oils on your body.

12. Nap
Yes, taking a quick cat nap is sometimes just the thing you really need to get you up and moving when nothing else seems to work. If you are short on time but have 10 minutes to spare for a quick rest, you can try this. Sit up right in a chair that has arms on it to rest your arms on. In one hand hold something like your keys or something similar in weight. Set a timer for 10 minutes. Rest your head against the back of your chair, close your eyes and focus on something like the number 5. Just picture the number five and repeat it in your head over and over. Don't let anything else come into your mind. If it does, refocus on the number 5. Generally, before 10 minutes are up you will have dozed off into a light sleep. When you go into this state, your hand that is holding your keys will fall out of your hand and which, for most, will awaken you. Once you are awake, you will feel more energized and awake and ready to go!
There you have it. The 12 best energy boosters I know of to get your energy back up so you can get going. Again, a word of advice, don't necessarily try these boosters all at once, for you may overwhelm yourself. Pick 2-3 to begin with, for example taking a good quality vitamin and drinking more water. Do these for a few days, then you can add more as you want or need them. Enjoy your energy!
