4 Common Diet Mistakes for Weight Loss

     One of the most popular New Year resolution is weight loss. Hence, many people are joining various diet programs. Other times that people are on a diet program is when they have a plan for a special event such as wedding or birthday celebration.

However, there are a ton of different diet programs available, choosing the right one can be a daunting task. Here are the 4 common mistakes or traps people fall into when choosing a new diet program.

Mistake #1 - Avoiding Protein

The #1 common mistake many people make when they are on a diet is to avoid protein. But ironically, protein can actually help you to lose weight if you eat the right portion of course. Protein can also help to keep you full longer. Blame it on genetics, but most of us have cravings for carbohydrates even though we know these aren't the most nutrient-dense foods.

Ptotein can come from many sources, not just meat but also vegetables. So, if you are a vegetarian, you can also get sufficient protein in your diet.

Here are a few examples:
3 ounces of chicken has about 22 grams of protein;
1 cup of yogurt has about 13 grams of protein;
1/2 cup of tofu contains about 20 grams of protein;
2 tablespoons of peanut butter has a whoppinbg 8 grams of protein.

Mistake #2 - Starve the body

The second common mistake people make when going on a diet is to go starving or hungry. Most people on diet are so concerned about calories, they cut out too much calories. Ironically, the secret to losing weight is not to cut out the calories completely but to put in just enough calories your body need everyday.

The problem of starving your body for food is that hunger eventually takes control and forces you to eat to survive. This is a biological reaction of our body that we can't avoid. When the body senses that they need to survive for food, they will force you to eat and eat and eat. Now, this is bad for dieter because you are now eating unhealthy and this will cause you to put in unwanted weight very quickly. This approach of dieting or losing weight is a BIG No-No.

Mistake #3: The Weekday Diet

If you listen to the experts, they will tell you not to worry about denying yourself a treat. Don't worry if there is some party or special event coming up. Just indulge for the event and continue on the next day. Now, this is a very good advice. However, you should eat in a small portion; if you eat like a pig, you are going to erase all the goods that you have worked so hard for during the week. So, please be careful and be very wise when attending party over the weekend. The message to remember here is... Do not over-indulged!

Mistake #4 - Irregular Eating Habits

Skipping meals and eating irregularly are the BIG enemy of diet. Many people think that skipping breakfast or lunch is good but in fact, skipping breakfast or lunch will not work. You see, when you skip breakfast or lunch, your body will feel incredibly hungry when you finished work in the evening. When your body is in a femine state, it will order and instruct your brain to grab anything and everything to eat. This is very bad and can destroy your diet completely.

So, if you are serious about losing weight, don't make these 4 common mistakes. The success formula for weight loss is to eat the right foods, exercise regularly and sleep well at night.
