Weight Loss And Diabetes: The Tale Of An Amazing Rebound

Sally was thirty five years old, and over the last decade her weight had slowly crept up until she was seriously overweight and in questionable health because of it. During a routine physical exam by her doctor Sally discovered that she was on the road to becoming a diabetic, thanks to her weight and the poor diet that she followed, as well as her sedentary lifestyle and high stress job.

All of these are common factors in the modern world today, and reasons why obesity is becoming a big problem for most of the population. The thought of having to inject herself with insulin terrified Sally, and she was determined to do something to lose weight and prevent diabetes in her future.

The doctor told Sally that in addition to losing weight she would need to exercise more and change her diet and lifestyle. These steps would help to prevent diabetes from developing and improve her health significantly, but the doctor did caution her that weight loss is not always easy and not to get discouraged or stop trying if she did not succeed at first.

In the beginning Sally struggled with her weight loss efforts, and the changes in her diet and lifestyle were slow to be made initially. The thought of having diabetes with a strong motivator for her though, and as time went on small changes grew into larger ones.

Sally slowly started getting more exercise each day, and made sure to include plenty of physical activity. She would take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk to the corner store instead of driving. Sally also purchased a pedometer so that she could keep track of her steps, and she turned this into a personal challenge to try and increase the number of steps she took each day.

When Sally first started her weight loss efforts her diet consisted of fast food and foods that were fast and easy to prepare, yet these foods were also highly processed and full of extra calories, fats, and sugars. Following the advice of the doctor, Sally sat down and made a food journal for the week following her initial appointment. What she saw written down after that first week amazed her, and made her think that it was a miracle she did not already have diabetes. After this Sally made it a goal to improve her diet, making at least small changes each week and switching from these unhealthy foods to foods that were more nutritious and lower in calories.

Sally saw success with her weight loss efforts thanks to a number of factors. She found a sensible dieting plan that worked for her after trying a few different ones, and she followed the advice of her physician and increased the amount of physical activity and exercise that she did each day. This also helped with her weight loss efforts by burning off extra calories and increasing her metabolism.

Sally changed her diet to include foods that were nutrient dense but low in calories and fat, so that her total calorie intake each day was lower. After she had lost weight Sally went back to the doctor and was checked again, and the good news was that she no longer had a high risk for developing diabetes, and did not have to worry about needing shots in the future to control this disease.
