Rather than diet, you should learn how to eat healthy foods in moderation, or portions of foods you enjoy and would like to eat for the rest of your life. Here are some tips that can help you successfully lose weight.

- If you write down your eating patterns, you can analyze where your bad habits are. You may require more food at diner but not as much for breakfast, everyone is different. By doing this you can get an idea of what your calorie intake is throughout the day and manage your intake more effectively.

- Stress causes most people to overeat, try to find other avenues for stress relief other than food

- Lose weight gradually, it is unhealthy to just stop eating, manage your calories and portion sizes

- Eat slowly; most overweight people will eat faster than your average person. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to receive the signals that you have eaten. If you slow your eating process down you will be more satisfied with less food.

- Treat yourself once a week to that special food that you are trying to avoid. This will allow you to still enjoy the foods you love but in moderation.

- Don't keep foods you are trying to avoid in your home, you will be more likely to eat them if they around.
Keep snack alternatives around such as fruits, nuts.

- One of the most important tips is to hydrate yourself consistently; water is the most critical element in maintaining your body's chemistry.

- Read stories or join forums to see what other people are doing to reach their goals. It is very inspirational knowing other people are in the same exact situation as you, and they have reached success.

Losing weight and keeping it off is a definite challenge. Most people will struggle with the hunger; conventional methods of dealing with hunger are ineffective and can actually cause health problems. Filing up with too much water will only temporarily mask the hunger and will make you feel bloated. Filling up on bulky foods such as carrots and celery sticks does absolutely nothing to make the necessary chemical changes in your brain to suppress the hunger. The only real effective way is to use common sense. Eat the foods you enjoy providing they are healthy, follow the suggestions above and most important, use portion control.
