Is It Time To Lose Some Weight And Recharge Yourself?

The problem of overweight and obesity around the world is an epidemic that plagues millions of people. Maintaining a healthy weight is a challenge - for people of all ages and especially for some people as getting older comes with many challenges and the older you get the more difficult it can be.

As a person ages they lose their motivation and drive to stay strong and active. And the less active you become the more the metabolism (the body's engine) slows and you have a recipe for weight gaining.

How can we lose and keep off extra body fat? You need to increase your metabolic rate (the rate your body burns fuel). This rate is closely linked to the amount of toned muscle tissue you have. This tissue is highly active and burns calories just being there as opposed to fat that burns next to nothing. Toning up your muscles with proper exercise will help you to lose the excess weight and also increase the chances that the weight loss (more accurately fat loss) will be maintained.

A proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise and a healthy eating plan go together hand and hand. In order to truly transform your body and lose weight you must commit to a regular strength training program and stick to it.

If you are new to the thought of needing to be active and starting an exercise program it is important that you understand how important it really is to your health, your weight, your wellness, your self esteem and in the long run, your life. Studies show that people who lead a life filled with exercise live the longest and have the lowest incidence of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and mental deterioration and at least 50 other diseases and illnesses.

Don't think of it a just something you try to 'see how you like it'. Liking it is not an option and is something you need to learn to do as you will need to exercise throughout your entire life if you wish to remain healthy. Our modern day lives simply do not have enough strength building and maintaining activity in them anymore and this is why we need to add it into our sedentary lives.

Without this activity our body, its systems and its structures right down to cellular level weaken and degenerate faster than when we do what our body is programmed to do and that is stay active - very active.

If you are wondering what type of exercise you need to do, strength training is more important to successful weight (fat) loss than cardio type activity such as walking, jogging or cycling. The reason lies in the amount of calories that are burned after the exercise session is over.

Strength training will increase the metabolic rate so you are burning more calories every minute of the day and night whereas with cardio activity you are only burning calories during the session. As your metabolic rate accounts for 60-75 percent of your daily calorie expenditure even a modest increase will help you burn off more fat.

Some of the most important changes you will experience as your strength and fitness improves are the ones you don't see: the boost in confidence and the sense of strength you feel in your muscles. There will be an increased desire to move your body for the sheer joy of it and you will feel pride as you are working towards a truly meaningful goal.

These are powerful changes in your life that will have a huge impact on the way you feel and the way you live for a long time to come.
