Causes And Symptoms Of Cellulite

What is cellulite? You may ask. If you look at the dictionary, it is defined as fatty bulges found in the arms, abdomen, or thighs. Cellulite is composed purely of body toxins. Pinch your thigh. If you see your skin forming dimples that resembles an orange peel or cottage cheese, be prepared for the bad news. Sadly, you have them. Under those dimples is the detested cellulite.

Cellulite can be observed in women and in teens, although it is much more common to those whose ages are above 20 years old. Men may develop cellulites too, but it won't be too apparent on them. This is because they have thicker skin. But even if cellulites don't show in men as much as in women, they are still at the risk of developing them. As a general rule, the places where cellulites form are in the abdominal area, thighs, buttocks, and arms.

Types of Cellulite

There are three types of Cellulite:

Class 1 - No medical symptoms but under laboratory conditions, anatomical change is present.

Class 2 - The skin is pallid and demonstrates decreased elasticity, along with signs of Class 1.

Class 3 - The Cellulite has a coarse texture, along with signs of Class 1 and 2.

What are the Causes of Cellulite?

Hormones

Female hormones estrogen and progesterone play an important part in determining the amount and location of fat cells throughout the body. Estrogen encourages the development of fat around the breasts, thighs and buttock area. Progesterone makes things worse by retaining fluid and causing weight gain.

Genetics

Some people genetically inherit a body that is more prone to the condition of Cellulite. This means that they have a greater number of fat cells, poor circulation, and weak lymphatic vessels and veins.

Lifestyle

Unhealthy lifestyles increase the chances of someone getting Cellulite. An inactive lifestyle can affect your blood circulation, your veins and lymphatic system. Clearly, an unhealthy and/or inactive lifestyle can also cause weight gain that further exacerbates Cellulite. Although skinny people aren't immune to Cellulite, obese people are much more likely to suffer from it.

Smokers are already aware of the potential negative effects that their habit has on their health. However, not everyone knows that smoking can lead to Cellulite. Chemicals in the cigarettes damage the veins and capillary walls, constrict blood flow and reduce circulation, all of which increase the likelihood of Cellulite.

Prolonged periods of high stress cause the body to store up fat around the stomach, thighs, hips and buttock regions, this can add to the chances of Cellulite build up.

Treatments for Cellulite

There are many treatments available for cellulite, although presently no 100% cures. Everything from collagen-containing lotions, to acupuncture, to herbal supplements, to massage may be used. Liposuction is not generally recommended as its effectiveness is rather low. Instead, there is an emphasis on improving skin health through things associated with circulation, a diet high in essential vitamins, and keeping skin hydrated. This can be as simple as taking in eight cups of water a day.

While there are many creams and other topical treatments available for cellulite, it may be the simple action of massaging tissue that stimulates proper blood flow and thus improves the health of the cells in the layers of skin affected by cellulite. There is some evidence that a topical treatment made with caffeine may improve skin appearance by dilating blood vessels in affected areas and increasing oxygen flow and the elimination of waste from cells. Healthy tissue is the key here. The injectable drug mixture in lipo dissolve, lasers, and surgery are also options explored by individuals who have not had success with other methods. The cost of a permanent solution can be thus quite costly.
