Burn Off A Pint Of Bud – Watch The FA Cup Final

At 5.15pm on Saturday 11th May 2013 the FA Cup Final will be played out at Wembley Stadium in London. It is a battle of two northern clubs, Manchester City and Wigan Athletic. 90,000 soccer fans will be cheering the two teams on at Wembley, with millions more in pubs, social clubs and homes all over the UK. It is also expected that millions of pints of beer will be drunk during the match. However, did you know that in the excitement of the FA Cup Final the average male fan will burn energy (calories) equal to pint of Budweiser?

Watching the FA Cup Final can actually be healthy and help you lose weight! This assumes that you just stand for the match, half-time and are stood for 15 minutes before the game. In these 2 hours you can burn almost 200 Calories, or a pint of beer. So enjoy the football and drink a pint of Bud, happy in the knowledge that you are having a zero calorie evening!

The Calculation

An average sedentary (no activity) man between the ages of 31 and 50 years needs around 2350 Calories per day. This is equal to 97 Calories per hour, or 195 Calories over a 2 hour period. Standing burns around 30 Calories per hour more than being sedentary, so in a 2 hour period an addition 60 calories may be burned.

Total calorie burn during a 2 hour period for an average man is therefore around 255 Calories. Once we take into account cheering, jumping and chanting, more calories will actually be burned. There are 132 Calories in a 330ml bottle of Budweiser, which equals 0.4 Calories per ml. 255 Calories equals 637.5 ml, which is more than a pint (568 ml).
