Is Living A Dairy-Free Lifestyle The Secret To Shedding Pounds?

Cutting out dairy has become a new trend in the diet world ever since Khloe Kardashian made it known that she lost 11 pounds in a month and a half by ditching milk and cheese. While some people say that dairy can be a major trigger of weight gain, nutritional experts believe it is the key to weight loss.

“In a month and a half, I lost 11 pounds just from not eating dairy, without doing anything else different, and that totally blew my mind.” the famous Kardashian sister explains.

Research shows from time and time again that dairy is the key to weight loss. However, if
you’re allergic to dairy, it’s advised to eliminate all foods from your daily consumption patterns.

“Dairy is a nutrient powerhouse full of protein, healthy fat, calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and B6 and B12 vitamins.” says nutrition and food scientist Danielle Starin, R.D.

She explains that each one of those nutrients helps your body lose weight. They supercharge your metabolism for fast, effective calorie burning. They give you tons of energy so you can smash your workouts. Did you know that drinking just one glass of milk can squash your cravings for junk food? The proteins help to fill you up and keep you satisfied. A glass of milk with each meal releases powerful hormones in your gut that prevent food binges later on!

“Staying full longer might mean you can skip that extra snack or not overeat at your next meal.” says Starin.

A study by the British Journal of Nutrition actually discovered that eating a high-protein moderate fat cheese snack an hour before a meal can curb people’s appetites so they eat less at each sitting. This resulted in dairy being the leading cause of fat loss in their diets, not fat gain.

Furthermore, another study by the International Journal of Obesity found that high-dairy diets lead to significant muscle gain. Participants who loaded up on cheese and milk gained 1.3 more pounds of lean muscle mass than those who skimped on dairy. One single cup of cottage cheese contains 50% of your daily allowance of powerful muscle-building protein.

Finally, calcium within dairy products promotes fat loss in a fascinating way. It lowers the body’s 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 levels. This vitamin makes fat cells grow, but without it functioning at a normal rate, fat cells can not expand at the rate they are supposed to. While veggies also contain calcium, scientific evidence reveals that it is strictly dairy calcium that is most effective for preventing fat cell growth.

The important thing to remember when choosing dairy is to note where it comes from and what you are eating it with. Processed cheeses, for example, are not conducive to weight loss. And if those processed cheeses are melted on pizza or nachos, then you are definitely not reaping the benefits of dairy’s nutritional profile.

To make smarter food choices, try incorporating Greek yogurt into your breakfast smoothies, drinking organic milk and including non-processed cheese into your daily snacking rituals. The calcium contained in these foods can ignite fat loss while providing muscle-building proteins.

As for Khloe, it was likely the fact that she cut out processed macaroni and cheese, mozzarella sticks and other junk foods that contributed to her amazing weight loss results.

What are your thoughts on dairy? Have you ever tried a radical diet to lose weight?
