6 Ways To Lose Weight On A Busy Schedule

We all know that making time for your daily workout can be the last thing on your “to do” list – especially when you’ve been super busy with work, family, kids, etc. (Life balance can be a workout in itself!) So what can you do to make changes when your life is chaotic? Try some of these on for size.

Be Realistic

For starters, you have to accept that there are only 24hrs in a day and if you don’t have time or energy to make massive changes – it’s likely you won’t see them (even if you are superman/superwoman). That doesn’t mean you can’t lose five pounds or tone up! It just means you shouldn’t expect to see a massive body transformation overnight if you aren’t putting in the work.

Switch Your Snacks

Ditch the junk and get healthy. Trade chips and pop for carrots and water, candy bars for bananas, ice cream for greek yogurt (you get the idea) You’ll instantly cut hundreds or even thousands of calories from your diet. Calorie cut = weight loss (just make sure you’re still maintaining the same level of activity!). Plus, these snacks will keep you full for longer periods which = snacking less

Exercise Even When You’re Not at the Gym

A favourite friend and fellow trainer of mine always says “doesn’t everyone lunge to the kitchen?” Think about it –  lunge to your fridge, do crunches during a commercial break, get up and stretch at work, always take the stairs when possible and park further away from stores!

Make Sure You Sleep

Multiple studies have shown that more sleep equals less weight gain over time. It’s a win, win  because the more sleep you get, the more energy you’ll have to compliment your active lifestyle.

Eat Real Meals

When we’re busy, we often forget to eat. We also tend to snack way more. While it may not feel like you’re eating a lot, because you’re only eating a few bites of (generally unhealthy) quick fixes here and there, the calories add up quickly. People who eat like this tend to consume many more calories than people who sit down to eat three times a day.

If You Have To Dine Out – Do It Right

I’m not preaching the “health” menu to you here. What you should do is pick your vice wisely. Cocktails, appetizers, entree and dessert all in one meal is totally not necessary and will likely leave you feeling bloated and stuffed. So pick your favourite from either the cocktail, app or dessert – not all 3!  You can save 500 to a 1,000 calories (or even more!) in a single meal!
