It’s a Fact – Study shows that Prepared Meals Spur Weight Loss Results

Weight loss is complicated. Those who have begun the often daunting task of traditional dieting – planning out healthy meals, shopping, and summoning the willpower to stick with it – already know this to be true. For those of you who have not yet started this process, losing weight may seem less complex, and even a task that can be tackled without a tremendous shift in eating habits. Eat more salads, cut back on the snacking, and throw in a little exercise for good measure. How could losing weight possibly be as hard as you’ve heard?

The answer to this question lies in the findings of a recent research study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In this study, researchers found that small changes in food and exercise habits have a negligible effect when it comes to producing large, long-term weight changes, and that weight loss results are far greater when premade meals are used instead of conventional dieting alone. These findings shed new light on why so many go-it-alone diet attempts fail just a few weeks or months after they’ve begun.

The Optimism Gap

Have you ever planned something out in your head, perhaps while driving to work, or while lying in bed at night, only to find that your perfect plan has more than a few holes when you attempt to make it a reality? What’s at play behind the scenes in these scenarios is an optimism gap. During the initial planning of an idea, such as losing weight, it is easy to look at the task ahead through an optimistic lens – after all, who wants to start such a task with a negative attitude?

When there is a gap between your ‘perfect world’ scenario for losing weight and reality, it is easy for your bubble of optimism to pop. As it becomes apparent that your idea of how things are supposed to unfold is not following your original plan, it is very easy to get discouraged. Once you reach this point, it is safe to say that your chances of meaningful weight loss results are shot.

For this reason, it is best to keep a few things in mind as you prepare to embark upon a weight loss journey:

  • Empower yourself with knowledge. You would not expect to learn how to fix a car engine overnight with no previous experience, and losing weight is no different. It’s complex, and requires a working understanding of how the human body processes the food you eat.

  • Set realistic goals for your weight loss. Base these goals on realistic targets that can be achieved in the real world.

  • Understand that this journey is not always going to be blue skies and rainbows, and that there may be dark clouds along the way.

  • When you have success, be proud and use it as fuel to keep the fire of determination alive.

  • When you experience failure, acknowledge it, learn from it, and move on. Don’t beat yourself up.

  • Lastly, stick with it! Weight loss takes time, but we can assure you that the benefits you will reap from improved health are well worth your time.

The Prepared Meal Solution

Obviously, as a delivered weight loss program, we at bistroMD are excited to read the findings of the recently published study. While we strongly believe in our program, and the nutritional foundation upon which it is built, we felt the need to share the insights of the study with as many people as possible. Would we love for you to turn to bistroMD as a solution for your weight loss needs? Of course. However, our intent with this piece is not to sell you on our program, but rather to share the insights of our founding physician, Caroline J. Cederquist, M.D., with regard to the data which has recently been confirmed.

Dr. Cederquist has long-known that weight loss and successful weight maintenance is a complex process. In her work with patients over 20+ years, she has witnessed the optimism that patients have on their first visit, and how their enthusiasm can take a hit after a few weeks of work. Dr. Cederquist founded bistroMD to share knowledge such as that which was backed up by the researchers in the study mentioned above – knowledge that she has possessed for years, but that is only recently beginning to come to light in the mainstream world of weight loss.

We invite you to take a look around our site, if you have not done so already, and decide if bistroMD is the right program for you. Feel free to visit our Facebook page, where you can interact with current program members and ask the questions that are important to you.
