Jennifer Hudson Loses Baby Weight on Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers has unveiled its latest spokesperson and weight-loss role model, singer and actress Jennifer Hudson. The new mom, baby David was born in August 2009, has been using the program to lose the baby weight and to model a healthy lifestyle for her new family, which also includes fiancé David Otunga.

The 28-year-old former American Idol finalist says, “With Weight Watchers, I am enjoying the weight loss because I’m doing it the right way – I feel empowered with what I’ve learned, everything from portion control to what foods will help keep me satisfied. It’s a lifestyle change, not a diet.” She also enjoys how easy the plan fits into her busy lifestyle, including an iPhone app that helps her track Weight Watchers Points.

Weight Watchers offers the advice “Stop Dieting, Start Living”. It reinforces that weight management is a lifestyle choice and not a short-term calorie restriction until a certain goal is reached. The program offers an integrated approach that emphasizes good eating choices, healthy habits, a supportive environment and exercise. By using a point system, all foods fit into the plan which not only focuses on calories, fats, or carbs, but also promotes healthful nutrients and fiber content.

In February, Jennifer Hudson also joined the National Milk Mustache “got milk” Campaign to spread the word that milk is a nutrient-rich beverage and that African-Americans, even those that are lactose intolerant, can and should drink it in place of less healthful choices such as soda.

Dr. Keith Ayoob, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says “For African American families in particular, the gap between the recommendation and the reality for milk consumption is quite large. By skipping milk, families are missing out on tremendous benefits. They could even be at increased risk for vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis and potentially heart disease.”

Jennifer Hudson’s new ad can be found on the Weight Watchers website. The tagline reads, “This is no act. I’m losing weight and you can too. Because it works.”
