Foods That Increase Metabolism Speed

Do foods that boost metabolism really exist? I have been told that they do. Or is it simply that these metabolism boosting foods which induce their influence by causing your metabolism to work harder instead of faster?
Before we start, what are we comparing these foods that speed up metabolismfoods against? Before you begin to suggest there are foods that increase metabolism, you must have some sort of control foodsfor comparison.
In our busy, daily lives, lots of us consume pre-prepared processed foods so, for the sake of this article we'll use these as the control group to compare our metabolism boosting foods with.
Generally pre-prepared foods are so refined they are a simple matter for us to digest and turn into energy. So, you might ask, surely that's no bad thing? Actually no, not really. As we all know, processed foods are not at all good for us because they are crammed with refined sugar, salt, fat - think of just about anything that's bad for you and the chances are it's in your preferred processed food.
Let's face it, our bodies evolved to digest and metabolize foods as nature intended so it is obvious that there are going to be complications when we change that natural state too much. Unsurprisingly, all these negative factors involving processed foods cause problems for our [metabolic system|metabolism}. When our bodies are clogged up with toxins and fats, our digestions barely manage to cope, and the effect is our metabolism appears to slow down.
So, conversely, it seems logical that near enough any unprepared food (i.e. natural food) would increase your metabolism! Indeed, that looks to be not far short of the truth. After exhaustive investigation into foods that speed up metabolism, it seems there is one common factor throughout them. That is, quite simply, that they are in their natural state.
Rather than list them one by one, I have divided them into three simple groups to show foods that make metabolism faster.
Fruits and Vegetables.
Advocates of Raw Food and Vegetarian diets will vouch for this I am sure - because they comprise fibre and complex carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables take more energy to digest than processed foods. This energy is created by metabolism which has to speed up to cope.
Lean Proteins.
Turkey & Chicken and fish are the greatest source of lean protein as they are naturally lower in fat than red meats. Research has proved that protein helps speed up metabolism because just as is the case with fibre it is harder to digest and therefore burns more energy to digest.
Hot Spices
Cayenne Pepper and Chillies have been shown to temporarily speed up metabolism for around 3 hours because they have properties which cause your body to heat up (remember how you break into a sweat if you eat hot chillies?) after you eat them by stimulating your body to produce extra stress hormones which boost your heart rate and, in turn, your metabolism.
If you look closely it appears to me that although the thermagenic foods do really make your metabolism work faster, generally foods that 'speed up' your metabolism do not so much quicken things as cause your metabolism to work harder to create the end product.
At the end of the day I guess it doesn't matter if our metabolism goes faster or works harder. The final effect is that more calories are burnt to carry out the metabolizing of these foods, so there is less waste energy to be turned into fat.
