How To Lose Baby Weight With These 5 Easy Tips

Many mums find losing baby weight after having a baby a real issue and often difficult to achieve. There is just so much to do after your beautiful baby arrives that getting started on losing baby weight is often the last thing on your mind. You need to realise there is no rush; the important thing is that you take your time and get comfortable with your new life before getting around to shedding that excess weight.

Once you are ready to start losing your baby weight having a weight loss plan is essential. As a mum of 3 here are 5 tips that I found essential at losing weight quickly and naturally:

1. Make sure you are emotionally ready to lose your baby weight. This is so important as you have to remember your body has physically been through an awful lot. Your hormone balance could be all over the place and first you just need a few weeks to let things settle down.

2. Drink lots of water. This is easy to do and is essential for general wellbeing, even if you haven't just had a baby. It is essential that you keep yourself well hydrated as this gives you body the best chance of functioning correctly. Often we mistake the 'I'm thirst' signal our body sends out with an 'I'm hungry' signal, so we reach for food rather than a glass of water.

3. Avoid fad diets, pills and potions as these can be very unhealthy and have been proved not to work. Make sure you have a good selection of nutritious foods, remembering the advice of 5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. This is essential for weight loss and most importantly keeping it off long term.

4. After about 6 weeks, but when you are ready, try some gentle exercises. It doesn't have to be too strenuous but try and do about 20 minutes of aerobic exercise per day. You could take your baby out in the buggy for a walk around the neighbourhood or go swimming. Anything to raise your heart beat for a short 20 minute period. Also, your body has been pulled and stretched during the 9 months so try and do pelvic floor and gentle abdomen exercises to tone the muscles affected by childbirth.

5. Try and get as much sleep as you can as this is essential for your body to rejuvenate and get ready for the busyness of the next day. It has been proved by research that mums who have 5 hours or less of sleep per night are 3 times more likely to retain 11 pounds or more of their baby weight. With a new baby it is sometimes difficult to get enough sleep but try and grab a few hours sleep you baby is sleeping and enlist some help during those early days.

By adopting these easy to follow essential tips you will get off to a great start at losing your baby weight in a natural and safe way. You will soon feel and see the benefits as you begin to shed your baby weight.
