Post Incisional Hernia Surgery

Question
I had an Incisional Hernia repair 5 days ago and there is a know under the incision the Dr made to repair my hernia. I had Gastric Bypass a year ago and this hernia show up. My concern is the knot under my skin. He sutured it and did not use mesh. My question is it just swollen or is it a hematoma or something else.

Answer
Hi Beth:

You need to have a surgeon or at least your primary care physician examine the knot to figure out what it is.  It's not something that can be diagnosed over the Internet. I'm assuming you'll be seeing your surgeon early next week for a post-op appointment.  Just be sure to write down this and any other questions you may have. (Such as why he did not use any mesh.)

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Good luck,
Karla
