Rou n Y Reversal

Question
Hi There,
I was wondering if you can tell me if there has ever been a reversal to a roux n y procedure?

Answer
Robin,
There have been many cases of a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass being "reversed" by connecting the small upper stomach pouch back to the larger lower stomach.  This is not usually recommended because the patient essentially always regains most or all of their weight.

Most surgeons would not call this a true reversal, because there is no way to return the stomach anatomy to its natural state.  Once a gastric bypass has been done there will always be scar and other alterations of normal gastric anatomy.

I hope this is helpful,
Dr JP
