not eating/nausea/vomitting

Question
Hello Dr. Pilcher-  I am 5 weeks post-op from the sleeve.  I haven't been able to eat as I'm sometimes going two and three days without eating.  I feel nausea every single day and almost all day long.  When I do try and put anything down as in water/vitamins or food I seem to vomit some of it back up.  I am also gagging alot and haven't had a bowel movement in 2 weeks.  I am so frustrated at this point and I don't know what else to do.  I've seen my surgeon twice last week, but something just doesn't feel right.  Any advice would be a great help.  Thank you.

Answer
Crystal,
I'm very pleased that you wrote you are seeing your surgeon, because in your situation management by your surgeon is going to be far more important than any information I can provide.

It does sometimes happen that patients suffer from sustained nausea or pain after a sleeve operation.  In my experience, these symptoms have not gone as long as 5 weeks without some type of testing being arranged by us.  Common tests are upper endoscopy (also called upper scope), or Upper GI X-ray (swallow X-ray dye and observe its passage downstream).  Have any tests been done in your case to try to see why you are having nausea?
