cant lose

Question
I had bariatric surgery 41/2 weeks ago. I lost 30 lbs in 28 days and for the last week or so, i havent lost anything. I go up 2lbs. down 2lbs. i'm doing everything i'm suppose to do but i'm getting discouraged. Is that normal?

Answer
Hi Debbi:

Relax! You're completely normal.  Actually, losing 30 pounds in 28 days is far above average... so don't freak if you have a 1-2 week stall.  Most people stall around 3-4 weeks... and then around 3 months... 6 months...etc.  (Think threes, in general.)  Keep doing everything you're supposed to... getting your protein in, your water, walking, etc.  Stick to your post-op diet progression (you're probably on purees/mushies right now).  Don't worry... you'll start losing again soon.

If you don't lose anything for 2-3 weeks, then it's time to take a look at your dietary intake, exercise, etc.

Congratulations on such a smashing first month!
