Extended release medications after Bariatric Surgery

Question
Is there any indication to not use extended release medications after bariatric surgery, (specifically lap band)?

I ask because someone had mentioned that these procedures cause slow emptying in the stomach, "gastroparasis" and increasing the amount of medication metabolized.

(As in organic chemistry, causing an increased percent yield)

Answer
Mr. Sycz,
In my experience, Extended Release formulations have the same impact after bariatric surgery as they did before.

Depending on the medication, you may want to visit with the prescribing physician to check and be sure it is having its planned benefit for your condition.

Best,
Dr JP
