detox

Question
Just have to say; awesome information and thanks for all the time spent on answering questions.

I started off on RAF diet cold turkey drinking lots of milk and a few raw eggs a day. I don't do either anymore. The milk made me feel horribly lethargic and week in the legs and increased the plaque on the back of my teeth. I didn't worry too much in the beginning as AV mentioned something about mercury or heavy metal detox from the brain been the cause of the plaque growth. After I stopped drinking milk this went away so I think that his statement may be nonsense. The raw eggs made me feel nauseous. After cutting out the egg whites the nausea went away but not the constant dry peeling skin around my nostrils. Since I stopped eating the eggs raw the flaking skin has disappeared.

I have been eating raw for nearly 6 weeks and decided to have a take away bacon and cheese sandwich. The result was 3 days in bed with near migraine type headaches and fever pains all over. One thing that stood out the most was the great kidney pain. It really surprised me - within half an hour of eating it. I thought that I was going to be free of detox symptoms, and I have been except for a dripping nose for an hour.

Is is common to experience such extreme reaction to one little sandwich? Is this really a detox? It's not like I have been on this diet for  years 100 percent and then suddenly eaten cooked food. One could expect such a reaction especially if it was bread.

Answer
There are 3 big problem-foods in the Primal Diet. They are in descending order of severity:- raw dairy, raw vegetable juice and raw eggs. Some can handle those foods, but not me or you. That is, I can handle raw eggs in small quantities, but do not absorb them properly if I over-consume the, otherwise they are fine. Aajonus really only peddles those raw foods above all(along with raw honey and raw coconut cream) because they are the easiest raw foods for newbies to get used to quickly. But those 3 are very often problematic due to allergenic effects etc.

It is possible for a person's body to suddenly switch to being better at digesting raw foods and worse at digesting cooked foods. This is because the body exerts a huge amount of effort in order to properly digest cooked foods(such as producing extra stomach-acid etc.), so, as soon as it starts getting a near 100% raw diet, it can suddenly switch over, due to a driving need. The reaction could have been due to the cheese, not just the bread.
