Metabolic syndrome and cholesterol-lowiring diets

Question
I'm 63 & overweight & have been very careless about my diet since my husband died nearly 2 years ago.  Last week I had a stroke - fortunately it was mild but my cholesterol is VERY high along with high blood pressure. Can you help me with diet ideas & specifics to lower the cholesterol & cut the weight?

Answer
Metabolic syndrome and cholesterol-lowering diets

Dear Phyllis,

You are completely right to pay attention to diet. Your high blood pressure and cholesterol level are important symptoms and are warning signs of possible metabolic resistance. Your body shape (if you are an "apple") can add to the problem.

Good news is, recent research showed that this condition is very responsive to the diet/exercise duo. I suggest that you read methodically to educate yourself in this field so you can know where you are and what you can do.

Please take a look at the Metabolic syndrome site at:

Don't hesitate asking me any further question!
