MDs question about gain/loss

Question
Do you know why doctors ask if a patient has gained or loss ten or more pounds in the past year?

Answer
R,
Unintentional weight gain or loss can be a sign of many different diseases, like thyroid problems, infections, autoimmune disorders, heart failure, tuberculosis, AIDS, any type of cancer, menopause and other female problems like endometriosis, stomach problems, colon problems, and the list just goes on and on! Weight loss (without the patient going on a diet) especially can be a sign that something is wrong and the patient needs to be checked out thoroughly.
