milk

Question
Hi Tanya,
why do a lot of diets advise not to drink milk - isn't it a healthy drink? - and to avoid dairy products in general?
Thank you!

Answer
This is one of duplicated questions. Did you ask me to repeat it?

The major reasons are:

- lactose intolerance
- relatively high carbohydrate content for those concerned with counting carbs
- relatively high fat content in full-fat milks
- higher carb content in low-fat milks compared with full-fat milk

As to dairy products, it's a different story. For instance, yogurt made of whole milk has only 4 carbohydrate grams in 1/2 cup while the initial product, milk has 11 carb grams.

Cheeses are very different in nutritional values. You might want to look at http://dietandbody.com/cheeses.html

Hope it helps :)
