Question
" I am 18 yrs old and weigh 220lbs at 5'10. I want to start a diet and nned to know how much weight i will lose. I would like to lose 15lbs in 3 weeks. I am eating under 500 calories a day. I eat campbells chicken with noodles soup at hand twice a day which is 80 calories each time, 1 cup of sugar free jello which is 10 calories, fat free Pringles (30 chips) which is 140 calories and occasionally a granola bar which is 120 calories. I drink water (0 calories) and diet soda (0 calories). I take one centrum vitamin every day. I go to the gym and walk on the treadmill with the incline on 15 at the rate of 3.5 miles per hour and burn 1000 calories. I have a slow metabolism. Can you tell me how much weight I will lose by doing this in a little over 3 weeks?"
i am the same 5'10 girl of 220lbs who plans on eating less than 500 calories a day. In response to your assumption, yes i have dieted before. last year i weighed in at 245lbs. in about 3/4 months i lost 30lbs by trying to not eat though i was constantly failing and would end up eating and say i'd start again tomorrow. the longest i ever went without eating before was 3 days. after that i started all types of diets, trying a new thing every few days. such as eating only pickles, or only yogurt, i was a vegetarian for a while and tried to eat very little bread at the same time (basically i was living off of potatochips and junk), and for a while i went with out fast food, i've tried not eating after 8pm, and a negative calorie diet. With all this dieting i lost 35lbs, but i never really realized it until i had given up on them all (it wasn't real apparent (i went from a size 18/20 to a size 14/16).  Unfortunately, I gained 20 of the pounds back (originally i only gained back 10 lbs, but within the last couple of months, i've gained an extra 10) the lowest i've ever weighed at this height is 210. I was a skinny child up until age 10 and then i got fat. My extended family is fat, but both of my brothers are skinny. I think i have very large bones and i am strong for a girl (i took weightlifting and can benchpress 150 on a machine) I am normally a fast food eater and i gained weight eating sometimes even 2 meals a day from fast food, but i am well aware of this problem, and am restricting fast food in take to once or twice every two months at least until i am at my skinny goal of 135lbs. i never eat breakfast so i eat 2 meals a day (normally excluding this diet where as long as i eat under 500 calories its fine).  BUT MY REAL REASON FOR WRITING BACK IS TODAY I EXERCISED TWICE! (MORE THAN 2HRS) AND IN TOTAL I WALKED INCLINE 5-15, 3.5-3.8MPH, AND BURNED A LITTLE OVER 2000 CALORIES. I WANT TO CONTINUE THIS. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH WEIGHT I WILL LOSE NOW. I think i am becoming addicted to the exercise. I just pop on my headphones and start moving for an hour.
The wrong way is faster! I don't care about the health problems. (the muscle and bone loss). All I know is that I'd rather have a short skinny life than a longer fat one (and there's no guarantee that im healthier being overweight)

Answer
Hello,
I'm not sure why you asked me this question unless you have posed this question to all the other allexperts.com experts as well. The reason is that I only advocate a raw, palaeolithic diet, which consists of eating mainly raw animal products such as raw liver, kidney etc., whereas you describe an appalling diet which is GUARANTEED to make you
overweight!
I used to be 105kg(roughly 20kg more than I am now) when I did much the same diet as you up to 5 years ago. I used to buy only a Mars bar or two a day plus some tinned tuna, and hoped it would make me lose weight. Of course, the result was I was so ravenously hungry that when I soon turned back to eating more food, my weight increased dramatically. The reason for this is that when the body is starving, your metabolic rate drops like a stone in self-protection to prevent death etc., so cutting calories is not a solution.
Your best bet is to try a healthy diet which gives you all the right calories and which suppresses your appetite in a  natural way while increasing your metabolic rate. Additional exercise will help too, but you may find that you get a sedentary job in the future where you have
little time or opportunity for exercise, so it's not the main solution.(Incidentally, weightlifting is a good idea, but have you tried using a Swiss ball for tightening stomach muscles - it's better than sit-ups or any similiar exercise).
Secondly, the diet you have right now is possibly the worst diet I have come across in a long time. I used to eat Pringles etc. myself, and like with all carbohydrates(especially processed ones) they don't satisfy the body's craving for fat and protein so, inevitably, I was
forced to eat more before my appetite was gone. The reason for this is
partly because  protein and fat contain far more energy in 1 gram than any carbohydrate( 1 gram
of fat has 9 times more energy in it
than 1 gram of carbohydrate). Also, carbohydrates are not the Palaeolithic food that the body is designed to eat. Carbohydrates shove the blood-sugar levels way up in the body in a very short time, thus forcing the body to produce insulin to lower the blood-sugar levels. If the body produces too much insulin over time, the body develops insulin resistance  and the insulin increases the trasnport of fatty acids into fat cells making you fat. Check out "insulin fat" on the Google search engine. The first link is "Discovery Health:Insulin Resistance", which explains the problem to some extent.
Basically, I am just telling you all this, because I used to count calories too and found it led nowhere.
Now, I realise my diet is difficult to swallow(pun intended). All I will do is explain in brief how and why my raw palaeolithic diet
works, and leave you with several websites and books to look at before making up your mind.
Basically, we humans have evolved large brains mainly because we had a diet in the past, which was mainly raw animal products 95% of the time, with raw fruit and raw honeycomb being the other 5%.  Our bodies are not designed to eat vegetables( herbivores need 3-6 stomachs and 60,000 enzymes to digest grasses
properly,as vegetables don't want to be eaten and produce phytic acids and other slow poisons to prevent this-also
we don't have the necessary gizzard that birds use to digest grain products and so on. Obviously we are able to break them down in the gut but not well enough to ensure perfect health, thus allowing slow-acting toxins to build up in our bodies.Look at the website "The Naive Vegetarian" ,www.paleodiet.com/cancer.txt, the "beyond vegetarainism" website, look on google.com under "scientific american food for thought article" , look at "bread blamed for short sight jennie brand miller" on google.com and lastly have a good
look at www.beyondveg.com/nicholson-w/hb/hb-interview1f.shtml for a proper overview of why we all need a Palaeolithic diet.
Now, I realise that my raw palaeolithic diet is a bit difficult to adjust to. I hope that once you have read the above articles you will begin to see the science and common-sense behind the whole idea. If you are genuinely interested in following up with doing this raw diet, please look at www.rawpaleodiet.org for basic guidelines, dos and donts on the diet, and you ought to buy the book "The recipe for living without disease" by Aajonus Vonderplanitz from amazon.com for a full explanation. This man does unfortunately advocate juiced vegetables and raw milk which are DEFINITELY not palaeolithic(in fact many Primal dieters wouldn't touch them with a bargepole).
Lastly, raw palaeolithic diets have been mooted around for decades, however they have only surged in popularity recently in the last decade
due to the numerous accounts and testimonials found on the Internet of the diet's success. This is definitely a diet which people only try and stick to
after everything else has failed. I myself dallied with every diet under the sun such as vegetarianism, the Hay Diet, raw vegan, fruitarian, as well as buying tons of herbs and alternative stuff such as
ginseng and royal jelly. I finally worked out that I was being a fool for doing what everyone else was doing, and started researching genuine scientific articles to work out the best path to health. I found it awkward at first in the
first 2-3 months, but now I love the taste of my food. Within 3-4 months of my following the Primal Diet correctly(minus raw milk) I got rid of almost all my health problems(such as stomach ulcers, pain in the joints etc.). Now I am not saying that you will dramatically lose weight in a few days, like other advocates of other diets might claim. Like
with, anything that actually works, you will take quite some time before you become slimmer - after all it takes time for the body to detox  from 18 years of cooked foods, let alone slim down)- but you will find that you will STAY
slim
which is far more important than just the act of slimming down.
You will also find  that your metabolic rate will increase dramatically.
If,once you've had a look at all the info and websites I have given you, you decide to go for it, do feel free to ask me a follow-up so I can give you the necessary info on how to get going on the diet. It's possibly the most difficult diet around to follow, so even if you do read the book etc., it's a very good idea to check with myself and other Raw Palaeolithic dieters in case you are doing anything wrong in the beginning.
Hope This Helps!
