Question -
Hi there,

Just wanted to ask you, i have been on Atkins now for 2 weeks, i have lost just 4 pounds although i have seen a massive difference in how i look. I am wondering if i am not eating enought carbs, i dont usually have more than about 6grams a day.

I am taking KLB6, Flaxseed Oil, Vit C and Atkins Accel but havnt noticed the weight 'falling off' Like everyone says!

Any suggestions - Oh and i am exercising 4-5 times a week

Thank you x

Charlotte,
Before I start spouting advice I'd like to ask you a few more questions-
How tall are you, how much do you weigh, and how old are you?
What is your exercise routine?
And finally, what are you eating? If you haven't been writing down everything you're eating, then start today and email me two full days of food (and drink). Don't forget to include any artificial sweeteners, be detailed, and measure all of your portions-instead of writing "cottage cheese", write "1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese, 3 Net Carbs".
When I hear from you, I'll be able to give you more advice!

p.s. In the meantime, if you're taking the chewable orange-flavor type of Vitamin C tablets, those have sugar in them-look for regular pills instead of chewables.

Answer
Charlotte,
I looked over your diet and exercise plan and I think in this case, all you needed was a fresh eye to look at your diet plan! You're breaking a cardinal rule of Atkins without even noticing... you're eating very little fat!
During induction, your calories should be less than 5% carbs, 20-30% protein, and the rest fat. Based on what you emailed me, you're eating less than 5% carbs (good girl), about 10-20% fat, and all the rest protein! You're also not eating enough calories. If you eat too few calories, you'll kick your liver into starvation mode, and you won't lose any weight.
So, stick with what you're doing, but make some fatty changes:
1. Replace some of your chicken with steak or other fatty meat. If you must eat chicken, make sure you eat the skin.
2. Replace tuna with salmon or other fatty fish.
3. Add another snack every day of a small handful of olives.
4. When you eat salads, make sure your mayo or salad dressing is not low-fat. Sprinkle some cheese, bacon bits, or other fatty condiment on top.
Try focusing on eating enough fat for two weeks, and I bet you'll see much more dramatic weight loss!
Good luck!
