Atkins diet

Question
I have been writing a report for school on the atkin's diet. Two thing are causing me trouble. 1. What happens when a person is in the middle of O.W.L and goes back to eating things with lots of carbs?
2. How do ketone fit into the atkins diet?

Answer
Micah,
Well, I think you can guess the answer to your first question-ALL of the pounds lost are regained... and usually regained very quickly!
As for your question about ketones, the quick answer is this: When a person eats insufficient carbohydrates to supply the brain, then the brain must use fat for energy. But it can't use fat in the normal form-instead, the liver converts fat into smaller bits called ketones, that the brain is able to use. People on diets check their urine for ketones to make sure that they are burning fat.
Good luck with your report!
