Can You Lose Weight Without Having A Plan?

The short answer is absolutely not!

Now, you were probably hoping for a longer answer than that; so I'll fill you in on why you should lose weight if you're carrying any excess baggage as well as why you need to have a plan of action to help you towards your weight loss goals.

Why should you lose weight?

Many of us decide to start losing weight because we're unhappy with our appearance. Of course, this can be motivational enough for some, but over the long term, this is rarely enough to get someone to both begin and stick with a weight loss plan.

Being overweight simply does not carry enough of a social stigma to keep anyone from living a relatively full life. If you're not taking part in a lot of athletic events and don't mind skipping the beach, you can generally go about your life without worrying too much about how your body looks. However, health should be your primary concern and the effect which being overweight can have on your health should be enough to get you to sit up and take notice.

We would all take maintaining a healthy weight very seriously if we thought a little more about just how much harm you can do to yourself by being overweight. Obesity can kill you, it's as simple as that! Obesity is a contributing factor to the development of diabetes, heart disease and some forms of cancer, along with a whole host of other health problems. The fact that obesity places you at a substantially increased risk of these and other diseases is beyond dispute.

Cardiac and Circulatory Problems

Let's start with all of the cardiac and circulatory problems that accompany being overweight. Obesity is often partially due to high fat diets which can lead to atherosclerosis, and along with the heart disease commonly associated with being obese, is a heart attack waiting to happen. Of course, when you factor in high blood pressure as a result of atherosclerosis, you have not just one heart attack, but many which can just keep on coming until they kill you, or you make some changes to your lifestyle to remedy the problem.

Type 2 Diabetes

Next, how about type 2 diabetes? Obesity leads to insulin insensitivity, bringing on the disease. Diabetes doesn't kill you on its own, but it causes secondary complications including heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and other extremely serious conditions. The circulation problems which are common in diabetics can lead to amputations being needed as well; are you convinced of the need for a solid weight loss plan now?

There's no need to take a lot of time to tell you about this, since it's something all of us already know. You need to plan ahead in any area of your life if you want to succeed, just like you need to take advantage of opportunities and learn from your mistakes along the way.

Discipline is something you need to practice; and discipline is its own reward as well as helping you to reach many others. Operating on our own instincts, it's too easy to get complacent and fail to meet our objectives. It may sound simple enough and it is, at least on paper!

You'll need self-discipline and commitment; but a lifetime of good health is a goal more than worth the effort you'll put into it.
