Are You Too Old to Lose Weight?

Do you know that almost every function of our body is controlled by a hormone or a group of hormones? Thus we have hormones which control our body growth, show the effects of aging on our body by making wrinkles and grey hair appear, maintain our metabolic rate, etc.

There are also certain hormones such as thyroxin, testosterone, epinephrine as well as the human growth hormone, all of which form together into a group called “fat burner hormones”. As the name suggests, these hormones help you burn fat and lose weight. It is a myth that a woman’s body doesn’t produce testererone at all; the reality is that a female produces much less testererone than a male.

Testererone is popularly known as the hormone responsible behind the strong and stout masculine body of males. On a deeper level, testererone burns fat by boosting our metabolic rate; at the same time, it also builds strong lean muscles for us so that we could burn fat even at rest! So, other things being equal, the more testererone your body has, the slimmer and stronger you would be!

The level of testererone is usually at its highest during our youth, after which it begins to decline slowly as we age. As soon as you hit 50, your testererone level hits an abysmally low level. With a low testererone level, your metabolic rate slows down as well, which in turn reduces your body’s fat burning capacity!

This is the reason why most people tend to gain in middle age even though they continue to follow the same lifestyle habits they had in their youth. The testererone level of a woman usually reduces as soon as she hits menopause. With that said, if you think you have no chance of losing fat in middle or old age, you are dead wrong!

Even though our body’s natural fat burning ability is considerably diminished in old age, we can fix this by boosting our metabolic rate artificially. The most common way of doing this is by building strong lean muscle mass, since the more lean muscles you have, the higher your metabolic rate would be! And of course the fastest way to acquire lean muscles is by participating in workouts!

Experts would preach you that saturated fats are what make you gain ! While this is true to some extent, it is also true that if you don’t consume saturated fats at all, you won’t be able to produce testererone on a regular basis and consequently, it would be difficult for you to lose weight. So make sure that you consume saturated fats daily, even if only a little bit!

In order to lose weight, it is also important that you maintain your normal blood sugar level. Our human growth hormone is what maintains our blood sugar and insulin levels, and you cannot produce this hormone if you don’t get enough sleep daily. Therefore, make sure you sleep for at least seven to eight hours per day! Getting adequate sleep would also kill your appetite by a large extent!

Remember that those who say that you are too old to be able to get rid of your fat belly are either plain ignorant of the facts or just discouraging you from pursuing your loss goal! Assuming that you are determined to lose weight, no one could keep you from reaching the final destination of a leaner and slimmer figure!
