Diet Shakes

Diet shakes have been around for ages, and many dieters use them as meal replacements or as snacks in-between meals. Many weight loss programs encourage the use of diet bars and shakes to keep people on track with their diets. This can be fine as long as these diet aids are not being used instead of healthy foods.

Many people go on diets and they think that all they have to do is eat prepackaged diet meals and diet shakes that will magically transform their bodies. The problem with this is that not only can that get downright expensive, but it is not healthy. The human body needs the nutrition that only comes from real food, found in nature. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, lean meats, fish, nuts, low fat dairy products, and such are all required by the body to function properly.

Diet Shakes in Moderation

This is not to say that diet shakes are bad for you. It simply means that you should drink them in moderation, maybe for a snack once a day, but not as your main source of nutrition. If you omit these other natural foods from your diet, you will feel tired, irritable, and maybe suffer from more colds and common illnesses. Furthermore, your body will be more susceptible to free radical damage, which can lead to cancer.

It can be tempting to think that the key to weight loss is contained in a diet shake. But in reality, the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, drink lots of water, and get plenty of rest. When you do this, your body is getting all that it needs to function well, and the rewards are numerous.
