New Year’s Resolution to Drop the Pounds: The Most Effective Way to Reach Your Goal

Looking to drop some pounds this year? Many of us resolved to drop some weight this New Year. To be all around healthier and leaner is a daunting task. Just the thought of beginning an exercise program or diet can be intimidating. Maybe you are committed for a week or so but then you fall out of your routine. I’ve been there myself more times than I’d like to admit. The problem for me was always time. I never felt that I had time to work out and burn some calories. Then I found out about HIIT conditioning. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and it is the most effective way to turn that fat into energy for your new body. The best part, it’s fast. I don’t mean that you’ll look like a model in two weeks. But HIIT only takes as much time as you can spare to do it.

How Does Interval Training Work?

Interval training is the process of taking your heart rate up and back down repeatedly. Each time is a bit of a shock to your body and gets your systems working overtime, but then you have time to rest and the systems cool down so you can do it over again. Laboratory tests have proven that a half hour of HIIT will burn more calories than a half hour of running. And you don’t even need to go a whole half hour. Ever see track pros on TV? The all have amazing lean and muscular bodies. The truth is we all have nice bodies but it’s just hidden. You can do crunches all you want but if you’ll never see abs if they’re under a layer of fat.

Exercises to Try

My personal favorite routine involves burpees. I do a burpee straight into a jumping jack as many times as I can in a minute. It works many different muscle groups and I get to constantly change direction. A gym class favorite is suicide runs (don’t be intimidated by the name). Mark an area in the yard about 30 feet. Then run around the markers. On the turns go slow and relax but between the markers you have to sprint and work. My favorite part of HIIT is that you can combine exercise into whatever you want. Once you get the hang of it you can do whatever you want with it.

You will show everyone that you are a fighter, committed and strong. They’ll want what you’ve got. They’ll ask you how you did it. This is the time. Let’s do this.
