The Dietary Changes Behind Lebron James’ Dramatic Weight Loss

LeBron James is used to making headlines. But lately, he’s been in the news not because of his mad skills on the basketball court but for his recent plunge in body weight. In August, the four-time NBA MVP, who’s ready to suit up again for the Cleveland Cavaliers after four years in Miami, shared a few Instagram pics of himself that revealed a leaner, way more ripped frame. And though he won’t say how many pounds he’s shed, he’s opening up about how he did it.

“No carbs, no sugar, no dairy,” he told CNN’s Rachel Nichols in an interview that aired on her show, Unguarded. James divulged that for 67 days, his meals consisted of nothing but meat, fish, veggies, and fruit. “I’m in the 250-ish range," he says. "A lot lighter than I’ve been playing at the last few years, but I feel good." He also says that, while he didn't follow the diet to improve his basketball game (he did it as a mental challenge), he's quicker on the court now.

This isn’t the first time James has switched up his diet; he reportedly gave up candy during the 2013 off-season.

James is hardly the first person to become trimmer and more energetic after swearing off refined sugar and the processed foods loaded with them. Get the details on why giving up the sweet stuff can lead to better health, plus painless ways to get started.
