Vegan habits that won’t leave you feeling deprived

Are you worried about missing out because you're on a vegan diet, or feeling deprived of nourishing, feel-good food?

The key to maintaining a tasty and rewarding healthy lifestyle, like with any diet, is to play and experiment with different food combinations.

Here are two yummy vegan habits that will help you get more excited and feel less deprived about cutting out all animal products, such as meat, dairy and eggs:

Eat one new vegetable a week

Being vegan doesn't mean eating boring vegetables like carrots and beans with rice every single day. Experiment! Try preparing or cooking a new vegetable each week to keep things interesting. Visit your local country market or Food Lovers' Market for a colourful range of fresh, seasonal veggies. Ask around at the market or browse online to find unique and suggested ways to prepare them.

Make your own whipped cream

Just because you've cut out dairy, doesn't mean that you can't enjoy a luscious helping of whipped cream. Here's how to do it: put a can of full-fat coconut milk into the fridge overnight. (Check that it's a brand without guar gum). In the morning, open the can and spoon out the thick layer of coconut cream at the top (not the liquid part). Put the cream in a bowl and start beating. Add a touch of vanilla extract and a dash of salt, and voila! - you have your very own, quick and easy vegan whipped cream!
