Brazil Nuts

Question
Hello,
I am a five-year breast cancer survivor. At a recent workshop, one of the facilitators informed us that eating brazil nuts will help prevent a recurrence of breast/prostate cancers. She suggested eating one brazil nut a day. I have also heard that brazil nuts can help with anxiety.

What is your opinion? Can you provide me with any more information regarding brazil nuts?

Thanks

Answer
Thank you for contacting allexperts.com I hope that I can assist you with your question.

I suppose this theory came into being because Brazil Nuts contain the trace mineral selenium, which has shown to be beneficial in the prevention of cancer.

Although there is certainly nothing wrong with eating Brazil Nuts, they certainly are not a magic bullet.  While they may be very beneficial in helping to prevent cancer, certainly you cannot be guaranteed of this.

I will mention, however, how important diet is in the care and prevention of not only cancer, but many diseases.  Until relatively recently, it was not an accepted fact that diet had anything to do with health and wellness, and many doctors STILL do not believe there is a connection.

If you are truly interested in preventing cancer for yourself or anyone else, I strongly encourage you to read the book "The Only Answer to Cancer" by Dr. Leonard Coldwell.  Doctor Coldwell has a documented cancer cure rate of 93 percent having treated more than 35,000 cancer patients in his clinics in Europe.  I will warn you that Dr. Coldwell is quite passionate about what he does and he may come across a little strong at times. But I can tell you that Dr. Coldwell knows what he is talking about and the death rate from cancer could be reduced dramatically if people would follow his advice.  His website is http://www.instinctbasedmedicine.com

The best advice I can give you to prevent/treat/cure cancer would be to follow a diet of fresh, unprocessed, whole, natural vegetables and fruits, nuts, grains, seeds and plant based oils. Preferably raw, and preferably organic.  In addition, taking a good supplement that includes trace minerals and nutrients is highly recommended.

If you would like to find out more about health and wellness issues, I encourage you to look over my blog at http://everydayhealthandwellness.blogspot.com  There are also some links there which might be interesting to you.

Please feel free to contact me any time. Best of luck to you.
