Weight lose

Question
QUESTION: Hi Iain,
Was wondering if you could help. For most of my adult life I have been over-weight.  When I reached 189 I knew I had to do something so I join weight watchers and was about to get off 29 pounds.  I Stalled at 160 so I ask my doctor for help. She put me on Phentermine.  It was wonderful, in a matter of 6 months I was able to drop my weight down to 128. I felt wonderful, had energy, and it balanced out my moods. Put as you know I had to get off of it and have been off it for 1 year.  Well needless to say I am back up to 160 and wanting to stop from gaining any more.  I am 45 year old female, 4'10" and at 160 obese.  I recent found out that I am in/thru menopause and have been put on hormones.  I so desperately want to drop my weight back down at least under 130.  I exercise 3-4 times a week 40 to 70 minutes a day.  I have tried low-fat diets, low-carb diets but without the Phentermine I just can't stop thinking about food.  Is there any way to get Phentermine without the doctor?  and/or what is the amount of calories I should eat in a day to still lose weight as much as possible.  Really would like to lose 30 by June.  Help. :(

ANSWER: Hi,

As Phentermine is a prescription drug, I would not be qualified to get any of it for you.

To lose the weight I would recommend no more than 1200 calories a day, and as you know most of them will be coming from lean food like chicken, turkey, pork and lean beef. And you will need complex carbs to sustain you with energy for the working out.

Of the exercise 3-4 times a week 40 to 70 minutes a day, how much of that is aerobics?

Thanks.

QUESTION: Sorry about that.  All of my exercise is Aerobic, between 20-30 minutes on the Ecliptical and then 20 to 60 minutes on the Treadmill. (usually 3.7 with intervels of 1 to 2 minutes at 5.0 randomly) To change things up I occasionally add the bike in for 20 minutes.
when is the best time to eat before your workout or after? And 1 hour or 2 hours before or after?  Thanks appreciate the advise.

Answer
Ok, that抯 good; you are doing a good amount of exercise and on different machines.

I would suggest trying to eventually stay on 1 machine for a longer period, say 40 mins on the elliptical and 45 on the tread mill, and aiming to do an hour on each, but on different days (only 60 mins aerobics per day). The reason is that the body starts burning up fat better over a long duration of exercise.

The best thing to do with your diet is also have 5-6 small meals a day. That breaks up the load on your digestive systems and also keeps your metabolism high as your body is always hungry and will actually burn up calories thru digestion.

Leave at least 3-4 hours before your workout before eating, have fluids instead or some fruit. You can eat straight away after a workout; in fact your liver will be looking fro more glycogen after a workout so you can exact some complex carbs, like whole meal cereals, breads, pasta.

Thanks.
