BEST Alcohol to Drink for Weight Loss

Maybe people are still celebrating the New Year…

But lately we’ve been bombarded with emails asking what the best drink(s) are for weight loss.

So, first of all, let’s get one thing straight — alcohol is never the best option in the world when looking for fat loss.  Several reasons why:

  1. Alcohol itself has calories (gram for gram more than carbohydrates and protein, but less than fat)
  2. It lowers your inhibition, so you’re more likely to overeat.

Don’t believe me on #2?  I just saw a quick snippet in Men’s Health magazine on a new British study showing that men given just 1 drink at lunch time ate 15% MORE at the buffet than those who didn’t have alcohol!

That’s crazy.  So you combine those added calories you ate with the calories from the alcohol itself and suddenly your meal is several hundred calories "heavier."  Rough one for shedding belly fat.

So back to the original question — what’s the BEST alcohol to drink when trying to lose weight.  I’m being realistic here since it’s not realistic for most to say never drink again.

Is it low carb beers?  Hard alcohol?  Wine? Mixed drinks?

Well, what do you think?

Let me first tell you it’s not "low carb beers" — why?  Because they have zero flavor and you’ll end up drinking more anyhow.  Why drink a watered down product if you’re going to over drink it anyhow to actually get some alcohol?  Maybe I’m biased, I don’t know — because I like dark beers.  Liquid tar, with a hint of chocolately coffee flavor.  Emmmm.  Now that’s a beer … it’s almost like a pureed steak, so thick it could double as a dinner.

I digress.

Point of the story.  Don’t waste your time with the low carb, low flavor beers.

Mix drinks?  Nope — nix them.  You have the alcohol itself. Add the soda or fruit juice on top of that.  Suddenly you’re tipping the calorie scale at around 400+ calories IN ONE DRINK!

How about wine?

Hmmm, now maybe we’re getting somewhere.

Wine is something you sip.  And one glass is around the 120ish calorie mark.  That has the "markings" of a winner to me.

Here’s the kicker — sip 1 glass.  Not 1 bottle.  Otherwise you’ll sabotage your own goal!  So if you were to sip a glass of wine (maybe 2) over the course of the night, you’d be in much better luck than sucking down some high sugar alcoholic "slurpie" or a 6 pack of "low carb" beers.

So this isn’t a "free for all" recommendation to start stocking your cupboards with wine and drinking glass after glass each night.

Make a glass of wine an occasional "treat" rather than the "norm."

And if you’re out and you enjoy a glass of wine (or 2), tell the waiter to hold the bread basket and skip the appetizer or dessert.  It’s a little give and take.  Although it’s just 120 calories, those calories add up way too quickly.

Mohr Results Bottom Line:  If you’re daily routine is to finish the day with a drink or two, yet you’re struggling to achieve your weight loss, there is a better way.   Cutting back on drinks means cutting back on calories.  And cutting back on calories means losing belly fat in the long run.
