Team Mohr Goes International...

Wow, sorry for the long delay in updating this blog.

Team Mohr has been traveling the globe talking nutrition … we spoke together in Iceland at the end of September.  Iceland has put together some mini symposiums the last few years and brought speakers over from the States.

Last year I went and spoke about sports nutrition, alongside strength coaches Mike Boyle and Dave Jack.

This year I was invited back, this time with Kara — so we spoke together to an amazing and eager group of young trainers, looking to learn and absorb all they could.  Again Mike Boyle was over there and another well known strength coach, Charles Staley.

It was Kara’s "last hoorah" before we have a new addition to "Team Mohr"…

…so it was particularly nice, since we did have to work a little, but fortunately got to play a whole lot more, including horseback riding, a trip to the geo-thermal Blue Lagoon, massages, eating…and a lot of fun with great people.

As a quick aside, thought you might get a kick out of this picture of me and Mike in our leather chaps before horse back riding.  They look particularly nice with my bright white and fluorescent green sneakers.  Don’t you think?

And of course being in a different country, we had to try some unique foods.

One of those foods…was whale.  It’s the darker colored fish here (the others are basic salmon and flounder).  A little too strong of a flavor for my liking, but whale isn’t for everyone. :-0

Also got to revisit the "rotten shark" that is an Icelandic tradition.  While I did have it again last year and planned to pass it up this year, I was told my description of it (horribly strong tasting ammonia soaked rubber band) wasn’t quite accurate…

…so I had to revisit to see if they were pulling my leg or it wasn’t quite so bad.  Well, while it wasn’t good by any means, apparently our rotten shark last year was extra rotten and even worse.

For the record, Kara didn’t try either — she’s clearly smarter than me.

After our amazing time in Iceland, Kara came back west … and I continued east to Indonesia.

After 1 short flight to London, I had a longer one to Dubai and another to Jakarta.

Talk about two extremes … colder, beautiful crisp clean air with very few cars in Iceland to hot, humid and pretty heavily polluted and more traffic than I’ve ever seen in my life in Jakarta (along with motor bikes and cars that create their own "rules.")

A little exhausted after that long trek and now 11 hours ahead of my normal time zine, I was anxious to hit my pillow.

In the meantime, I also have a confession to make.  On one of the many flights over to Jakarta, I took the recommendation from Mike Boyle — the strength coach who was in Iceland with us — and watched the Justin Bieber movie, Never Say Never.  He recommended it from a marketing perspective, considering this huge music star was discovered on YouTube.  In that sense, it’s amazing.

I’m certain that the other passengers were laughing at me, but that’s fine … heck, I already posted a picture of me wearing leather chaps.  I can take a few more laughs at my expense.

As for Indonesia — definitely had the chance to try a lot more unique foods, tropical fruits, and other items that are scarier than rotten shark (cow lung anyone)?  In my short time in Indonesia, I had the chance to try some great fruits — mangosteen, guava (fresh, not the one Tropicana bottles), dragon fruit (shown here in redish with black dots), passion fruit, and many others.

I was there talking about the importance of omega-3 fats and trying to increase awareness about the importance of this essential nutrient.

Along with some newspaper interviews, I presented to about 50 different media representatives one evening.  Unfortunately time was a bit short in this country, so we didn’t get to see too much while we were there…

… hopefully there’s an opportunity to go back in 2012 and revisit some other parts outside of Jakarta, as well.

All in all, travel was fun … but it’s very glad to be back after a long trip away.

Wednesday we’ll be back with maybe the most important blog we’ve ever written.  Stay tuned…
