Why Most Diets Fail

If you have ever been overweight there is no doubt that you have tried to get on a diet. Getting on a diet is not hard at all, staying on one is much harder. So why is that most diets fail? Here are just a few reasons.

Low calorie diets are difficult to maintain mainly because it's not enough food. Not eating enough will send your body into "starvation mode," making your body think it needs to store as much energy because it is not getting enough food. Your body stores energy in the form of fat.

If you always feel hungry it's only a matter of time before you over eat. You may have noticed you could eat much more when you are really hungry. The key is to eat something on a schedule, eat before your are hungry.

People need variety. Some diets are very strict and give you limited options. If you diet only allows a few different types of meals it will be much more tempting to quit.

A busy schedule will make maintaing a diet much more difficult. If you are the type of people that are so busy you have to eat out on a regular bases it will be harder to maintain a diet. When you do go out to eat it is your choice to choose a healthier meal.

Avoid getting on a scale too often and right away. You might get discouraged if you find you have only lost a couple of pounds in a few week. Your body didn't change overnight, don't expect it to start now.

If you assume you will shed the weight in days with diet alone you will be disappointed. If you want quick results add exercise to your dieting. I would recommend you add some cardiovascular exercise to increase the amount of calories your body burns. The way you loose weight is if you burn more calories than you consume.

If you assume you can get on a diet, lose weight, stop and keep the weight off you might be in for a surprise. Changing your eating habits for a little while only give you results for the same amount of time.

Here is my best advise, get on a diet you could commit to, permanently. Yes, it might be difficult but that is the only way to keep fit on a diet. Replace the word diet and think of it as just eating healthier. Make better choices when it comes to food.

If this for you is impossible there are other alternatives. Start exercising and don't stop. Either way you go about it, consistency is the key. Getting yourself some cardio fitness equipment for your home can be a great way to stay committed to exercising.

Most diets fail, you don't have to. There are options out there you could stick to.
