Couples also have this habit of eating out together often. It is sometimes ritualistic and hard to break, but dining out could be a big factor for couples who gain a lot of weight. If you want to lose weight together you have to plan dining out and start choosing the restaurants you go to. Begin your diet by getting smaller portions. Dine out less frequently and split an order with your partner.

Why not bond on the tennis court? Maybe you could dedicate one day a week to watch a movie instead of just sitting around at home munching chips in front of the TV. If the movie theater is near your home, walk to the cinema instead of taking the car.

Now that you will be dining out less frequently, you will be eating at home more. Look for recipes for couples diets and buy the ingredients together. It is still important that each of you get to buy and eat healthy food that you will enjoy eating. This prevents you from looking for old comfort food which as fattening.

Don't forget to buy healthy snacks like fruits and vegetable (apples, pears, vegetable sticks). These are food you can snack on after dinner or when hunger strikes. So, instead of grabbing a bag of chips or a bar of chocolate when hunger pangs strike, get some apple to munch on or vegetable sticks as a late night snack while you watch something on TV. You can also have healthy sandwiches or salad as snacks if you like. Speaking of salad, watch the salad dressing, some can be fattening. Choose fat free salad dressing to go with your greens.

Everyone experiences moments of weakness, even when you are trying to lose weight together. If you have a moment of weakness, avoid eating fattening food in front of your partner. Remember that you are both on a couples diet and providing temptation to your partner won't help one bit. Slipping off the diet is fine if it only happens a couple of times. Make sure you try to make up for that fattening snack by exercising more on your next trip to the gym.

Keep a journal to record your improvement. Weigh yourselves and write down your weight a couple of times a week. If you see that one of you is slipping, help your partner figure out why this is happening. The advantage to a couples diet is that you are supposed to help each other lose weight together and if one is falling behind, your job as a partner is to help him or her get back on track. Another tip is to switch physical activities every now and then so you don't get bored with routine. So, if you guys start to get bored with playing tennis every week, you could switch to mountain biking or badminton.

Going on a couples diet is easier than going on a diet alone. First of all, you might be tempted to eat off your partners plate if you see your hubby digging into a nice juicy slab of pork chops.
