Weight Loss Tip #104 — Eat every two hours

Diet is a important part of our life and it is even more important when it comes to weight loss. Even if you are exercise every day for 45 minutes, you will find it difficult to lose weight if you don’t eat right. Eating right doesn’t simply mean eating four meals a day or eating a heavy  breakfast and ignoring all other meals of the day. You might think eating six hours later will help your body burn fat, but that is not the case.

Your body requires energy not just for your day to day activities but also its own processes like breathing and digestion.  I had recently attended a workshop called Let’s Talk with nutritionist Pooja Makhija where she explained why you should eat every two hours.

She explained that when you don’t eat for a long time, say for five to six hours, your body starts getting tired because you are not providing it the fuel it requires. Also, when you don’t eat for long, your blood glucose levels start dropping and when you eat after five to six hours, there’s a sudden rise in the blood glucose level. When glucose levels rise, your body produces an excess of the hormone insulin to utilise that glucose. And when excess insulin is produced it helps your body to store fat more easily, thereby hampering your weight loss efforts.

So, if you eat every two hours, you will provide your body with adequate energy to carry out its day to day activities. All your metabolic activities get streamlined and your blood glucose levels will not fluctuate which in turn will prevent your body from storing fat.

So follow the most important rule of weight loss–eat every two hours.
