Why am I not loosing weight?

Question
Okay let me start off by saying I am 16 years old, 135 pounds and 5 foot 7. My problem is I have been trying to loose weight for a longtime now with little to no success. At first when cuttig my calories down to 1,500 calories I was loosing 1-2 pounds a week, but this was over a year ago. And now I still eat like this due to the fact I am trying to loose weight because all my weight has come back on. But even now with working out on the elptical for 30-60 minutes 3-5 times a week and eating around 1,500 calories I still not seem to lose any weight. I would to weight training but I'm scared my leg muscles will just bulk up, what should I do I want to lose weight before springbreak but it just won't come off? Am I not eating enough? What am I doing wrong???

Answer
Hi,

I know your own opinion sometimes is the one that matters the most, but I believe you are probably at an ideal weight for your height.  The range for 5'7" tends to be 119-152 lbs.  After knowing this, if you would still like to loose weight, I would double check with your parents, teacher, or a doctor to get a second opinion.

Remember weight is just a number, its what you see in the mirror and how you feel about yourself that counts.  If you still want to loose weight, do it for you.  At the age of 16 years old your body is still growing and changing and you need to fuel it with the right food to live and stay healthy and gorgeous for the rest of your life.

Keep up the exercise its great for you, maybe join a sports team, or do a different type of exercise.  Changing your exercise routine really revs up the metabolism, burning more calories.  Maybe run one day, elliptical the other, etc.  Weight training will help because muscle burns fat.  You can lift less weight with more repetitions to promote lean body mass.  Example; 5lb weights, bicep curl 15 reps, x 3 sets.

Eating 1500 calories is the bare minimum you should be eating.  Keep your meals healthy, tons of vegetables and fruit and eat a little meal/snack 5-6 times a day.  Also, make sure you aren't drinking your calories.  For example; stay away from soda or sugary coffees and juices.  Stick to water and milk.
