weight loss/exercise

Question
Hi,

I am a 40 year old women. I am "5.2". Since I am short, any extra weight I gain makes a big difference. At this time I am not exercising.  Right now I weight 125. Since I turned 40( last October), I have been at a plateau of 125. Before that I was at 120. In the past, I would plateau at certain weights before going down. I would like to get down to 110 or lower.
Question: What type of diet should I be doing and what type of exercise/how often  would get me to my goal weight?

Looking forward to your response,

Pilar
