muscle & soy bean

Question
1.After what age would people start losing muscle mass and strenght caused by hormonal changes?

2. How many mililitres of cooked soya beans would contain the protein equivalent of a 110-gram hamburger or 500 mililitres of milk?
but this is outside of my expertise

Answer
Hi Karen,

Muscle mass starts to decrease significantly after age 30. Strength training (e.g. lifting weights) can help to slow down or prevent loss of muscle mass.

110 grams of lean ground beef contains approximately 21 grams of protein. 500 mL of milk contains 16 grams of protein. 1 cup of cooked soybeans contains 28 grams of protein. Therefore just over 1/2 cup cooked soybeans has the equivalent protein of 500 mL milk, and 3/4 cup cooked soybeans would have the equivalent protein of 110 grams lean ground beef.

Hope that helps!

Karen
