where am i going wrong?

Question
Hello, im a fifteen year old girl and i weigh 10 stone, and i am 5 ft 8.
Im not fat, i am actually quite slim, apart from one problematic area - my tummy.
My stomach has been out of proportion to the rest of my body since i was about 10 years old, but it is only in the past couplke of years that it has bothered me.
The problem is, is that when i was much younger (6, yes i know very young), i had an eating disorder.. and my parents have always encouraged me to eat a lot more since then (my mum in particular has always put pressure on me since then to eat more). However, when i was about 12-13, i got into the habit of eating absolutely loads, and while i was never really fat, i was over-weight but i couldnt see it, i actually thought i was still really thin, but then a girl i know called me fat, and it opened my eyes, and since i was about 13, ive tried to lose this weight. I've been very sucessful in the sense that iv lost a lot of fat on my legs and arms, but theres just this area on my stomach that just wont shift. I know i need to change my diet a lot more, but i really dont eat that much, and i do exersise (but this is very difficult because i dont know which exersises are effective and so its hard to motivate myself) and i know i need to burn off more calories than i eat, but right now i only eat about 1500 calories a day so where am i going wrong? this is really upsetting me now because i've stopped buying clothes that i like because i want to cover my tummy up.. its actually given me a bad complex because im actually pretty but have no self-esteem and i think that if i managed to achieve my goal of getting a flat(er) stomach, i could be a lot more confident with myself. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Answer
Dear Sophie, First you have to look at your genetic make-up. Some people don't have flat stomachs and never will. A protruding stomach could be poor posture, it could be a lack of protein in the diet, it could be saggy abdominal muscles, or it could be just fat. If you have no other fat, then chances are it's one of the other. Second you have a very poor body image of yourself. Look in the mirror and tell yourself it's OK to look the way you do, accept it and get on with your life.
See a trainer to help get you on an exercise program that targets the midsection (back and abdominals). Make sure you are eating foods from all food groups. Meat, fish, chicken, low fat dairy, vegetables, fruits, whole grain breads, and healthy fats. You can't tighten muscles without proper food.
Again, start to accept and like yourself. Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
